Hard Water and It's Annoyances
Well, it's been a while since anyone has done a blog on this site! Obviously something for myself and my colleagues here at Home Comfort Care to work on now!
Where to start...... well I have been cleaning professionally for about 5-6 years now, and worked for some big names (which I will not mention) besides here at Home Comfort Care. I have also done just cleaning on my own privately. Over the years I have learned some fun tips and tricks I want to bestow upon you. Bestow? Is that a good word? Advise. I like that better.
So I know that most people don't check for hard water build up until it's too late. It may have been there for days, weeks, months, dare I say years..? It may get a little daunting, you ignore it, get angry at it. It can block water streams, look disgusting, and discolor your pretty showers. Now, there are a few ways to get this stuff off. I will go over a few products.
The cheapest stuff obviously is vinegar. You can pour it directly onto the hard water, BUT it has to sit. Use paper towels soaked in vinegar to stick to glass overnight, fill up a baggie with water and vinegar to place around your shower heads, sink faucets overnight. Use a rolled up paper towel to soak up vinegar and place it around handles and things. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work the best and stinks super bad, but it will clear out the gunk. Scrubbing with a sponge or bristle brush will be required after it's sat.
The Works. You can get this stuff at the DOLLAR STORE. IT WORKS. The toilet cleaner is the most effective one. However, you can burn finishes if left on too long, so you douse it in "doses" and rinse after it stops bubbling. A little bit of scrubbing is required but if "dosed" enough it will be minimal. This product is NOT safe on some materials so make sure and read the instructions, including your hands. You will want to wear gloves. It works the best on glass and just melts off that hard water. Kind of exciting if you ask me. I get all giddy watching the hard water melt down the glass and into the drain. Probably more than I should.
CLR. This stuff is a bit dangerous. You will want to read all the instructions and use as directed. I would recommend this after every other efforts fail. It's some pretty potent stuff. It's not safe on a lot of materials as well so instructions are important! I have only used it once. It works super nice, but that was after I had gone to cursing that shower head for about three separate days over a month and trying every other trick in the book.
Preventative measures- Just wipe off the sink before it dries. Seriously? That's it. If the water's not allowed to sit, it doesn't build up! Super easy! And if you forget on occasion, no worries. That's what us maids are for. ;) Thanks! Stay tuned for our once a week tips! Glad to be back! As for any extra tips I didn't share, feel free to share with us as well!
Tiffy-
